Amazon subscriptions on iPhone: which ones Apple bills, and where to cancel

Amazon subscriptions live in two places. Prime and Kindle Unlimited are billed by Amazon, because none of the five Amazon iPhone apps we checked sells them through Apple. Amazon Music Unlimited, Audible and Prime Video ad free can be bought inside the apps, and then Apple bills them: they appear in Settings, your name, Subscriptions and have to be cancelled there. Through Apple they cost more: Music Unlimited is $13.99 a month against $12.99 on amazon.com, $11.99 for Prime members (US prices, 1 November 2026).

Music Unlimited: $13.99 via Apple, $12.99 on Amazon

Amazon sells subscriptions through two cashiers. Some it bills itself, on amazon.com. Others you can buy inside an iPhone app, and then Apple bills them. Which one you have decides where the subscription shows up, where you cancel it, and how much you pay.

Who bills which Amazon subscription

We read the In-App Purchases list on the US App Store page of each Amazon iPhone app on 1 November 2026. A subscription on that list can be billed by Apple. One that is missing from every list can only be billed by Amazon.

Subscription Sold through Apple in Who can bill you
Prime none of the five apps Amazon only
Kindle Unlimited none (the Kindle app lists no in-app purchases) Amazon only
Amazon Music Unlimited Amazon Music and Amazon Shopping Amazon or Apple
Audible Audible and Amazon Shopping Audible or Apple
Prime Video ad free Prime Video Amazon or Apple

The surprise in that table is Amazon Shopping. The app you open to buy household goods also sells Music Unlimited and Audible memberships through Apple, so a subscription can belong to your Apple Account even if you never installed the Music or Audible apps.

Through Apple it costs more

The same subscription, bought through Apple or straight from Amazon. App prices are the ones on the App Store pages above; web prices are the ones amazon.com and Audible’s help center showed on 1 November 2026.

Plan, monthly Through Apple From Amazon or Audible Difference
Music Unlimited, Individual $13.99 $12.99, or $11.99 with Prime +$1 to +$2
Music Unlimited, Family $24.99 $21.99 +$3
Audible Premium $15.99 from $14.95 +$1.04
Audible Standard $9.99 $9.99 same

A Prime member on the Music Unlimited Individual plan pays $167.88 a year through Apple and $143.88 on amazon.com. A Family plan costs $36 a year more through Apple. Amazon’s web prices are the ones it lists after the free trial for new subscribers.

This is the pattern we found across 22 subscriptions: most companies charge the same on both channels, and a few pass Apple’s commission on to the app price. Amazon is one of the few, on music and on audiobooks.

How to see your Amazon subscriptions: two lists

  1. On amazon.com, open Your Memberships and Subscriptions. This is what Amazon bills: Prime, Prime Video add-ons and anything you signed up for on the website.
  2. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions. Any Amazon Music, Audible or Prime Video entry there is billed by Apple.

A subscription appears in one list or the other, never in both. If you only check amazon.com, the ones Apple bills are missing, and if you only check your phone, Prime is missing. This is the same blind spot that makes Netflix vanish from your iPhone, in reverse.

How to cancel each one

Billed by Amazon. Prime and Prime Video add-ons from Your Memberships and Subscriptions on amazon.com. Music Unlimited from Your Amazon Music Settings. Audible from your Membership details on audible.com.

Billed by Apple. Settings, your name, Subscriptions, then the Amazon service, then Cancel Subscription. What Amazon’s own help pages add:

  • Amazon Music Unlimited. Amazon’s help page sends App Store subscribers to Apple to cancel, and says a plan from the Apple App Store cannot be paused, only cancelled.
  • Prime Video add-ons. If Apple bills you, Amazon says to cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal, or you may be charged again.
  • Audible. Audible says a membership billed through the App Store has to be cancelled there, not on its site, and that deleting the app does not cancel it. Credits that came through the App Store do not expire when you leave.

Moving to the cheaper price

Cancel the Apple subscription, let the term you already paid for run out, and subscribe again on amazon.com or audible.com with the same Amazon account. Audible says audiobooks you bought are yours to keep after you cancel, and the credits you received through the App Store stay in your account.

The trade is the same one as with every web subscription: once Amazon bills you directly, the subscription leaves Settings, your name, Subscriptions, and your phone stops showing it. Write it down with its renewal date, and check the other places subscriptions hide while you are at it. Kelo keeps that list on iPhone without connecting to your bank and warns you before each charge. Kelo is not affiliated with Amazon or Audible.

Loose ends

How do I see my Amazon subscriptions?

Check two places. On amazon.com, Your Memberships and Subscriptions lists what Amazon bills you, including Prime and Prime Video add-on subscriptions. On your iPhone, Settings, your name, Subscriptions lists any Amazon service you bought inside an app, such as Amazon Music Unlimited or Audible, because Apple bills those. A subscription shows up in one list or the other, never in both.

Why is my Amazon Music subscription not on amazon.com?

Because Apple bills it. If you subscribed inside the Amazon Music app or the Amazon Shopping app on an iPhone, the subscription belongs to your Apple Account. Amazon's help page sends App Store subscribers to Apple to cancel, and says a plan from the Apple App Store cannot be paused.

Is Amazon Music Unlimited cheaper on the web than on iPhone?

Yes. On 1 November 2026 the Amazon Music app listed Individual at $13.99 a month and Family at $24.99 as in-app purchases. Amazon.com listed Individual at $12.99 a month, or $11.99 for Prime members, and Family at $21.99, in each case the price after the free trial for new subscribers.

How do I cancel Audible if I signed up on my iPhone?

Through Apple: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Audible, Cancel Subscription. Audible's help center says a membership billed through the App Store has to be cancelled there, not on the Audible site, and that deleting the Audible app does not cancel it. It also says credits received through the App Store do not expire and stay in your account after you cancel.

Can I pay for Amazon Prime through Apple?

Not through the Amazon apps we checked. On 1 November 2026, the App Store listings for Amazon Shopping, Amazon Music, Prime Video, Audible and Kindle showed no Prime membership among their in-app purchases, so Prime is billed by Amazon and managed on amazon.com. Prime Video ad free is a separate add-on, and that one the Prime Video app does sell through Apple.
