Why Netflix is missing from your Apple subscriptions

Open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, and Netflix is missing. Nothing broke: Netflix bills most members itself.

Two sources say so, and both belong to the companies involved.

Apple. Every App Store listing prints the app’s in-app purchases. When we first checked, on 22 August 2026, the Netflix listing printed none. On 19 September it prints Netflix Standard at $19.99 and Premium at $26.99, the same prices Netflix lists for the US, so an Apple-billed membership costs the same as a direct one.

Netflix. Its help page on Apple billing opens with the reason: billing through Apple is no longer available for most new or rejoining members. Existing Apple-billed members in some countries may be asked to add another payment method.

For most people, then, the subscription exists, the phone plays it, and Apple holds no record of the money. Same shape as the other three quarters of your Apple billing, and a lot more common.

Where Netflix lives instead

Sign in at netflix.com and open Account, then Membership and Billing. Plan, price, next billing date, cancel button.

Netflix charges you on the date you signed up, each month. That date is the one to write down, because nothing on your phone will remind you of it. If it is the 31st, check what your tracker does with it in February.

The case where you pay twice

Netflix documents one situation that bills you on both sides at once, and it catches people who did the sensible thing.

Some members, mostly long-standing ones, are still billed through Apple. Move one of those accounts onto a card inside Netflix and you have changed who Netflix charges. You have not touched the arrangement sitting on the Apple side.

Netflix states it: if you switched from Apple billing to another payment method after 25 October 2021, you must also cancel the Netflix subscription through Apple to avoid future charges from Apple.

One account, two payments, and the Apple charge gives you no clue what it is beyond a line on your statement, because you stopped thinking of Netflix as something Apple handles.

If that might be you: open Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Netflix listed there while your Netflix account shows a card means both are running. Cancel the Apple side.

Apple’s clock, not Netflix’s

While Apple bills you, Apple’s rules govern the cancellation, and they run tighter than most people assume.

Netflix spells out both halves. An Apple-billed membership can renew if you fail to cancel more than 24 hours before the renewal date. And Apple may charge you up to 24 hours before the period even starts.

Cancel on the renewal day and the payment has often already left. That is the mechanism behind the month you paid for after deciding to quit.

One more thing Apple billing blocks

Netflix gift cards cannot be redeemed on an account billed through Apple. If somebody hands you one, you have to move off Apple billing first, which drops you straight into the double charge above. Switch the payment method, then cancel on the Apple side, in that order.

The check, in two minutes

1. Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Netflix there means Apple bills you and Apple’s clock applies.
2. netflix.com, Account, Membership and Billing. This tells you your real plan, price and billing date.
3. Both showing something? You are paying twice. Cancel the Apple one.
4. Neither? You are on a shared household account, or the charge sits on a card you have not looked at.

Keeping track of the ones your phone cannot see

For most members, Netflix is the biggest subscription that leaves no trace on an iPhone, and it will not be the last. Every service that bills you directly behaves the same way: it works on the device and stays invisible to it. YouTube Premium bought on the web joins the same list, at $5 a month less than the app price. The full twenty minute round finds every one of them.
